About Me

My Background

I started sculpting in September 2016 at the Artists in Middleburg's equine sculpture workshop with instructor Goksin Carey.  I honed what I learned and my first sculpture, Delight, was ready for bronzing in October 2017.  I have been around horses most of my life and have been studying dressage for over 20 years.  Since 2013, I have been studying equine biomechanics under Jean Luc Cornille and the Science of Motion. My knowledge of equine biomechanics and love for horses is now expressed through my hands with clay.

My Medium

I build my own armatures and use plastalina clay.  This clay is oil based and never dries.  Once my clay sculpture is finished, there is still much to do! The bronzing work is completed using a lost wax method by Wegner Metal Arts in Fredericksburg, VA.

My Inspiration

Becoming an artist in my late 40s is a result of the inspiration I see daily.  I live in stunning Middleburg, VA, an area known to ignite artistic fires in the people who live here.  The scenery looks straight from a canvas and the large population of horses just adds to the beauty.  I train horses daily and study the way that they move and express themselves.  Horses are living sculptures, each one is a work of art.
